RSS is a format for syndicating news and webblogs. RSS is very widespread with many websites and most major news websites offering live RSS feeds. The rssReader adds live RSS newsfeeds to your Flash MX, Flash MX 2004 and Flash 8 websites within minutes. This Flash component can load RSS/RDF files into a textfield, textarea or the Flashloaded flashTicker / flashtickerFX.

All fonts fully customizable
Set a different font, style, size and color for: RSS source title, source description, headings, topic description and internal context links. Only one choice of font when using the flashTicker typewriter effect.
Adjustable spacing
Set the spacing between headings and desriptions as well as the spacing between topics.
Auto-refresh
Set the rssReader to automatically reload the data at regular intervals.
Option to display headings only
Choose to display topic headings and descriptions or only the headings.
Set number of topics to display
Choose to display all the topics in the RSS feed or set the number of topics to display.
Limit amount of characters to display
Choose to display all the characters in the topics or limit the number of characters to display per topic. When a character limit is set, the text is rounded off to the furthest complete word.
Integrates with other components
Use this component together with the Flashloaded ultimateScroller, Flashloaded flashTicker/flashTickerFX and the Macromedia ScrollBar component/TextArea.
Choice of linking options
- Link is applied to the entire topic content.
- Only headings are links.
- Only the "read more" texts are links.
- Only heading and "read more" text are links.
This option is not available when using with the flashTicker.
Override links
Define your own URL to use in place of all links defined in the RSS feed.
Option not to display RSS channel title text
Most RSS feeds start with some introductory text about the source site. The rssReader includes an option to disable the display of this text.
Add "read more" text
Set your own "read more" text to appear at the end of each topic.
The installation includes two components
rssReader is for textfields/textareas
rssReader-FT is for the flashTicker/FX
Display images option
Some RSS feeds contain images in the HTML content. This option allows you to choose whether to display the images or not (only MX 2004/Flash Player 7)
Strip HTML code & line breaks
Some RSS feeds contain HTML tags or undesirable line breaks which may interfere with the desired look. These options allow you to strip all HTML tags and remove all line breaks from the RSS feed.
Loading Message
Enter a message to display to the viewer while the RSS data is loading.

RSS Reader Flash Components Requirements

Macromedia Flash MX/MX 2004/8 (standard or professional) for authoring (Windows or Mac). Movies using this component may be published for either Flash Player 6, 7 or 8, ActionScript 1.0 or 2.0. The webserver hosting the form must support PHP 3 or higher (most webservers will already have php installed).
