Are you a webmaster or site owner looking for a
way to earn a Steady web based income using the traffic
your website already gets? Affiliate and reseller
programs are the way to go! Literally within
minutes you can be running money making ads on your
website which will bring in a steady income without
any work on your part.
How Does it Work? - Affiliate programs
are agreements between webmasters and product or service
providers. The basic jist is, You make money by
sending visitors to their website via banner ads, text
links, etc. and they pay you an income with commissions
on each sale that is made through one of your ads.
- Sign Up - First you will sign
up for an account with an affiliate program provider
(this usually takes about one minute and requires
no approval in most cases).
- Choose an Affiliate Advertisement -
once you sign up the provider will usually have lots
of pre built banners, ad graphics or even Flash animated
content which you can insert into your web pages. You
need only choose the one that you feel will work
best on your page and then copy/paste the code into
your web page. The affiliate provider will display
the code beside each ad option. Once you paste
the code into your web page, it will automatically
be called up from the affiliate provider's server
directly into your page.
- How are Affiliate Sales Tracked? -
The ads on your website will send visitors to your
affiliate program provider's website. Any time
one of your visitors clicks an affiliate banner,
text link or other advertisement, a cookie is placed
on that visitor's computer. If
that visitor makes a purchase then you receive credit
for all moneys paid in that transaction and you will
receive a % commission (commission pay outs vary
with each affiliate program). In most
cases you will receive commissions on an ongoing
basis from that cookie for a period of time (varies
with each program). In this way a visitor may
use your link and not make a purchase right then,
but if they return within a certain period (usually
30 days) and make a purchase you will still get credit
for the sale.
- Getting Paid - this will vary
with each affiliate campaign you join, but in most
cases they work pretty much the same. Either
on a monthly basis or once you reach a certain balance
in your account, you will receive a payment from
the affiliate provider. Generally payments
are dished out in three different ways - Check by
mail, Direct deposit into a bank account or Paypal
payment. In some cases a affiliate seller may have
other payment methods available but most use one
of the above three.
One of the best ways to find hundreds of affiliate
programs in one location is to join an affiliate network. What
these sites do it to consolidate hundreds of programs
into one site with a single user account. So
by signing up for the affiliate network you are in
turn able to apply to all their affiliate programs. This
is particularly good for those programs which may not
have large payouts, because your income from each affiliate
program is consolidated. In this way you can
reach your minimum balance for withdrawal much faster
and only need to deal with a single source for tracking
all your sales. You don't always find everything
you want in these networks but they are a good addition
to your affiliate sales arsenal. An example network
is LinkShare.com
