Link exchange has long been a method for websites to increase their search engine rankings. The idea being that if you link to me from your website, it is like "voting" (in the eyes of the search engines) that you believe my site is worth visiting. Exchanging links with another website is a reciprocal way of voting for each other and hopefully thus increasing each other's search engine rankings.
Submit Your Resource to our Directory!
Many people believe that simply racking up the back links to their website will give them the high rankings and traffic they desire. This is untrue! The search engines want you to link to other website (hence the beneficial boost) but quality counts. A website that sells shoes has no business linking to a web design company. No, you won't be penalized for it. You can link to anyone you want, it's your site. But, you will not receive any benefits from it. The best way to think about this is "will my customers find this link useful?" If not, then do not link to that site.
Search engines are always on the lookout for people trying to abuse the link exchange concept. If you consistently make links to non-related sites (see above), link to poor quality websites (ie: sites with no real beneficial information), link farms (sites who's only purpose is to try and collect back links), etc. then you may actually hurt your own rankings by having penalties applied to your site.
We follow all "white hat" rules when it comes to our SEO practices and link exchange partnerships. Every site will be "hand checked" for a reciprocal back link, the site must be of high quality and follow proper guidelines for linking on it's own website. If you link to Sex sites or Gambling or off topic sites, we will not link to you. This is beneficial for ourselves and for those in our resource program.
